Jewelweed is a plant that has healing properties.  It is common througout Ohio, especially here, in Caeser’s Creek. The leaves on the jewelweed plant turn silver when underwater, making the leaves look bejeweled. That is possibly where the name jewelweed came from. Also, the jewelweed has a trumpet shaped flower that has pods that pop when you touch them because of the air inside, scattering the seeds in a result of reproduction. Jewelweed is good for skin healing because it works by counteracting chemicals in other plants. The Native Americans have used this plant for healing injuries, such as burns, ecxema, and cuts. Many people still use jewelweed as alternative medicine for curing poision ivy and poision oak.
