While on your hike you may notice the pawpaw tree. The pawpaw tree has the biggest edible fruit native to North and South America. It can only grow up to 15-30 feet, so for a tree it is very short. The fruit, when ripened, tastes like a sweet and gooey banana. Sometimes, pawpaw seeds are used in salad dressings because of their peppery flavor. The pawpaw tree is related to the Asimina plant. The leaves are a light green color, and have creases pointing downward at a 45 degree angle, they are rounded torwards the bottom, but pointed where they connect to the branch. Remember to keep your eye out for this tree, but please don’t pick the fruit.
