The American Persimmon

The American Persimmon is a tree you can find throughout Caesar Creek Park. It is a fruit bearing tree. The tree is common in the eastern parts of America including the great lakes of America. If you come into view with these trees keep an eye out for the orange fruit which mean that they are ripe. The tree has very sweet fruit when it is ripe. Any time before that, if you eat the fruit, it is extremely bitter. It is a good source of vitamin C. The fruit can sometimes be black.

This fruit is often eaten by many animals including deer, raccoons and foxes. This tree can be used as a garden tree and its fruits as treats. This tree can be found in valleys, dry uplands and mixed forests.
